U.S. Rep. Steven Palazzo told constituents Monday night that Gov. Phil Bryant should send National Guard troops to Texas to help with the border crisis.

The fourth district congressman said sending Mississippi National Guard troops to the Lone Star State would help Texas Gov. Rick Perry secure the border. The Republican congressman made the comments during a telephone town hall meeting in response to his thoughts on the border situation.

Palazzo agreed with Bryant that Mississippi should resist any efforts by the federal government to send immigrant children from the border to the state. Bryant sent a letter to President Barack Obama last week saying that he would do everything within his power to "prohibit the federal government … from housing large numbers of new illegal immigrants in the state of Mississippi."

Palazzo also said he would support changing federal law that allows children born to illegal immigrants in America to remain as citizens. Palazzo said he believes "anchor babies" should be deported with their parents.
