A well-informed citizenry is foundational to a robust democracy. When citizens head to the polls to cast their ballots, they must have been given enough information on the various candidates to make an informed decision. It’s a responsibility we take seriously at the Daily Journal in trying to provide in–depth coverage of the local, state and federal candidates who appear on Northeast Mississippi ballots.

This year, Mississippi voters will have many choices to make, from statewide races like governor and secretary of state to legislative seats to county seats like sheriff, tax collector and supervisor. The governor’s race will be particularly intriguing since incumbent Phil Bryant is prevented by term limits from seeking re-election, meaning the governor’s mansion will soon have a new occupant.
