JACKSON, Miss. (AP) - A spokesman for Gov. Phil Bryant says Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump will be back in Mississippi next month.
Clay Chandler confirms in an email that Trump is to attend an event Aug. 24 in the Jackson area.
He says other details would have to come from the state Republican party.
This will be Trump’s third visit to Mississippi. He attended rallies in Biloxi in January and in Madison the day before Mississippi’s primary election in March.
It’s unusual for major party presidential nominees to visit Mississippi, since swing states get their attention.
Mississippi last voted for a Democrat - Jimmy Carter - in 1976. The previous Democratic winner in Mississippi was Adlai Stevenson in his failed 1956 campaign against Dwight Eisenhower.
