Newton is Republican Nominee for AG
Jackson, MS. – Today, Republican Candidate for Attorney General Scott
Newton is declared the only Republican candidate for AG.
“I am excited and honored to be the sole Republican candidate, and to
be on the same ballot as Haley Barbour and Lt. Governor Amy Tuck,” stated
Newton at the Republican Party Headquarters in Jackson. “I know the people
of Mississippi will respect my experience as a former F.B.I. agent and federal
prosecutor and agree with my vision and commitment to fight crime and protect
the families of Mississippi.”
Scott Newton is a former F.B.I. Special Agent that handled such cases as a corporate
fraud investigation that exposed $520 million in shareholder losses, the Montana
Freedman Standoff, and Unabomber investigations. As a former federal prosecutor
with the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Jackson, Mississippi, Newton prosecuted
Fidel Ayala, the leader of an international narcotics trafficking organization,
considered to be one of the largest drug traffickers in the United States. Newton
is also a two-time recipient of the prestigious “Integrity Award”
from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services for his service as a Federal
Prosecutor.
“It is a testament to Scott’s hard work and persistence that, as
of today, he is the defacto Republican nominee for Mississippi Attorney General,”
said Neil Forbes, campaign manager for the Scott Newton campaign.
