Mississippi Republican Party reacts to John Kitchens withdrawing from AG race

JACKSON, MS – Mississippi Republican Party Chairman Jim Herring released the following statement in response to John Kitchen’s announcement he is withdrawing as a candidate for Attorney General:

“Republicans are disappointed with John Kitchens’ decision today, but we are very excited to have a nominee of the quality and character of Scott Newton. Now that this race is down to a contest between Scott Newton and the lone Democrat in the race, an ineffective District Attorney backed by wealthy trial lawyers, there is no question that Scott Newton is the right choice for Mississippi.

Scott Newton’s career as an FBI agent and federal prosecutor give him the perfect law and order experience to make a positive difference for Mississippi. Scott Newton has never lost a case in front of a jury so we’re looking forward to November when we believe he will have made the case to Mississippians that he is the best person to make our streets, neighborhoods and communities safer.”
